Left: Highlights of the Rocky Mountain Horse Stud open day Feb 2026.
After being invited to attend the Otago Equine Expo in 2023 with their imported riding horse 'Rocky Mountain mare Emily' - couple Cornelia and Marcus were inspired to work on the RM breed in NZ. They had no idea they were so rare here! Since then they have imported a traditional coloured Chocolate Silver mare 'Honey' in foal. They have since seen the birth of colt 'Sirius Silver' and filly 'Ophelia'.
They recently hosted an open day to introduce them to the public. Sirius and Honey have also attended the Rangiora A&P display, and Honey and Emily have been seen at Canterbury A&P show too.
Two older Rocky Mountain mares are needing new homes as their owner is moving overseas. Please contact Rare Horse Society if you can give them a new home.

This website is a work in progress. Please reach out to correct and update information. We would like to feature great educational videos, photos of real horses proving their versatility and strengths, accurate preservation status numbers, news on the breeds from NZ and overseas, up to date contacts, links to websites, registries and associated entities for the breeds and more. In some instances placeholder or international images have been used where some nice local horses could be, we use what we can find at the time (hopefully without getting in trouble). We appreciate images supplied if you have any New Zealand based images.
